Design is composition. That is what I have heard since the first day of my first art/design class. Composition has rules: it has to be balanced, scaled appropriately, focus on negative and positive space, repetition, and there are many more. You can see design in many art pieces, and things that one wouldn’t consider art. For instance a chair, or a decoration stand. Design is used in everyday objects and holds together an art piece through its rules. All design can be considered art, but not all art can be considered design.
